Two Slovak titles at San Sebastián IFF 2015
The San Sebastián International Film Festival (September 18 – 26, 2015) premieres two Slovak titles – the coproduction feature debut Family Film by Olmo Omerzu and Fear, short student film by Michal Blaško.
Family Film is the long-expected feature directed by the Slovenian Olmo Omerzu. Omerzu studied at Czech FAMU and already celebrated success with his graduation film The Night Too Young, which was selected for the Forum section at Berlinale 2012.
Family Film, presented as a project in development at Pitch & Feedback (KVIFF 2012), was made in the international coproduction of Czech Republic, France, Slovenia, Germany and Slovakia. It tells the story of a married couple who set sail across the ocean, leaving their two children to explore the freedom of being home alone. Unfortunately, the boat goes down, and so does the family.
In San Sebastian IFF, the film is included in the competition section New Directors.
Short student film Fear directed by Michal Blaško (currently in preparations for his Bachelor degree at film directing) will be screened within the International Film Students Meeting. The film was coproduced by two film schools, VŠMU (SK) and FAMU (CZ). Fear depicts the struggle of Marek - young boy who witnesses a violent attack in a bus. He is able to shoot the whole incident on his cell phone, but his fear and conscience prevent him from doing the right thing.
The film will be introduced by its director Michal Blaško, the executive producer Jakub Brychta, DOP Adam Mach and sound designer Ivan Ďurkech and will compete for several awards - Panavision, Freak Agency / Feelsales, BioBioCine – Duoc UC, Orona, Torino and also for participation in Short Film Corner at Cannes.
This year´s student jury o fthe festival also has a Slovak member, the animator Marta Prokopová.
