10 Slovak films celebrate their selection to the programme of 44. Karlovy Vary IFF 2009 and 3 projects of Slovak films will be presented within the Festival´s Film Industry events.

Soul at Peace (orig.: Pokoj v duši) by Vladimír Balko is included in the Official Selection – Competition. After five year, a majority Slovak film production is thus again included in the main competition of this important „A“ film festival, since Cruel Joys (dir. Juraj Nvota, SK-CZ 2002) competed for the Crystal Globe for Best Feature Film in Karlovy Vary in 2003. In 2005, two further Slovak co-production films were fighting for the Crystal Globe at Karlovy Vary IFF: The City of the Sun (dir. Martin Šulík, CZ-SK 2005) and The Unburied Man (dir. Márta Meszáros, HU-PL-SK 2005) .
Soul at Peace, first feature-length film by the director, has reached over 115.000 viewers since its Slovak release in January 2009, and, thus, has become the most visited film in 2009.
Osadné (orig.: Osadné) by Marko Škop will be presented in the Documentary Film in Competition as the world premiere. Marko Škop competed in this section in 2006 with his debut Other Worlds, and received Special Mention of the Jury at Karlovy Vary IFF 2006 and, as the first documentary film in the history of the festival, won the Audience Award. OSADNÉ was presented at KV IFF in 2008 within Docu Talents from the East.
In a special screening of the film The Boxer and Death (orig.: Boxer a smrť) in a section Tribute to Peter Solan, the Festival will pay homage to the Slovak director Peter Solan on the occasion of his 80. birthday in 2009.
