Lubuskie Film Summer 2020
The 49th Lubuskie Film Summer (August 30 - September 6, 2020), International Film Festival of Central and Eastern European Cinema, will present multiple Slovak films of the past two years.
Five Slovak films will compete within Feature Film Competition , most of them premiered at the prestigious film festivals. The Karlovy Vary IFF presented Let There Be Light by Marko Škop, Václav Marhoul’s The Painted Bird premiered in the Main Competition of the Venice IFF, and Charlatan by Agnieszka Holland had its premiere at the Berlin IFF. Jonáš Karášek’s Amnesty and Irena Pavlásková’s The Prague Orgy will also vie for the Golden Grape Award.
Documentary Film Competition will present feature debuts as well as documentaries of acclaimed filmmakers. Silent Days by Pavol Pekarčík observes the lives of deaf children from Roma settlements, Never Happend by Barbora Berezňáková snoops around unresolved murder of Róbert Remiáš, and Paradise on Earth by Jaro Vojtek captures a life of journalist and war photographer, Andrej Bán.
Lubuskie Film Summer cares about short films as well. A selection of five short films from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava will be screened in the section European Film Schools, notably The Manifesto of Despise by Kristián Grupač, Trust Me by Zlata Golecová, R + J by Martina Buchelová, The Fire Report by Katarína Jonisová and The March by Michal Blaško. Joanna Kożuch’s animated Music Box will represent Slovak professional short film production. FAMU selection also includes Czech-Slovak-French co-production SH_T HAPPENS by David Štumpf and Michaela Mihályi, which was already selected to more than 100 festivals.
