  What is Slovak at IFF Warsaw 2008?

Slovakia is having two films in the international comeptition progammes of 24. Warsaw IFF (Oct 10 - 19). Juraj Nvota's feature film Muzika / Music , which received 9 national awards "Slnko sieti" / "The Sun in a Neti" this year, will be presented in the Int. Competition of First and Second Feature Films, short animated film About Socks and Love / O ponožkách a láske by VSMU student Michaela Čopíková will compete in the Intern. competition of shorts.
Muzika / Music will participate at CentEast Market as well, along with another Slovak project - The Border by Jaroslav Vojtek.
  Audiovisual Media Service Directive - conference

Implementation deadline for the Audiovisual media service directive is the end of the year 2009. New rules deriving form the AVMSD will significantly influence providers of on-line and ondemand media services, broadcasters and others. Media Institute is organizing two day conference in September 2008 focused on this new regulatory framework of the audiovisual media services.

For the 5th time, Slovak Republic will be represented at one of the most prestigious international film markets the Marché du Film, which takes place within the 61. IFF Cannes 2008 (May 14 – 25, 2008). An extraordinary element of the 5th anniversary of the Slovak representation is undoubtedly the selection of the Slovak film Blind Loves by Juraj Lehotský to the 40th edition of the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs/Directors’ Fortnight. In addition, for the second time the Slovak Film Institute sends out a representative to the Producers on the Move. One of the 22 participants of international selection of young perspective producers is Marko Škop, Artileria, among others the producer of Blind Loves.

  Slovak films from 70s on DVDs

After success of the dvd collection Slovak Films of 80s (released in Autumn 2006), Slovak Film Institute and Petit Press publisher decided to release new dvd package focused on the Slovak films of 70s. The collection contains 10 titles considered as the most exciting of the Slovak production in 70s. The first title of the collection was released on September 21st, the last one will be out on November 23rd 2007.

  Roming at Toronto IFF 2007

Czech-Romanian-Slovak coproduction film ROMING by Jiří Vejdělek will be screened at 32. edition of Toronto IFF within the Discovery programme.

Based on a screenplay by Marek Epstein, Roming is a poetic road-movie comedy already taking the road of international recognition. Having won the first place in the “Sazka Prize” script competition, Roming has also been awarded the first place in the national round of Hartley-Merill Prize International screenplay competition.
